Steven Bell

Steven J. Bell is president, 2012-2013, of ACRL and Associate University Librarian for Research and Instructional Services at Temple University. He writes and speaks about academic librarianship, learning technologies, design thinking, user experience and library leadership. Steven is a co-founder of the Blended Librarian, and Designing Better Libraries, a blog about design thinking and library user experiences, and is the founding blogger of ACRLog. His columns, “From the Bell Tower” and “Leading From the Library” appear in Library Journal’s Academic Newswire. He is co-author of the book Academic Librarianship by Design. Maureen Sullivan

Maureen Sullivan is a widely recognized leader and educator in the library profession. She currently is the president of the American Library Association. Her career has included positions as the human resources administrator at two major research libraries; a consultant and trainer with the Association of Research Libraries; a member of the faculty in the Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions PhD program at Simmons College and in one of the annual institutes sponsored by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her contributions and visionary leadership in the profession have been recognized in three major awards. She was the recipient of the American Library Association’s Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for Change Award in 1999. The Chicago Public Library named her its 2006 Charlotte Kim Scholar in Residence and invited her to address The Promise of Appreciative Inquiry in Library Organizations. She also was named the 2010 Academic/Research Librarian of the Year by the Association of College and Research Libraries. Ms. Sullivan is a past president (1998-1999) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). During her term as President, she helped establish the Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians in partnership with the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is now a member of the faculty for this annual program. She was president of the Library Administration and Management Association for the 1988-89 term.

Naomi House

Naomi House, MLIS is the founder and publisher of the popular webzine and jobs list INALJ.com (I Need a LibraryJob). Founded in October 2010 with the assistance of her fellow Rutgers classmate Elizabeth Leonard INALJ’s social media presence has grown to include Facebook, Twitter and a LinkedIn group in addition to the interviews and jobs found on INALJ.com. Through grassroots marketing, word of mouth and a real focus on exploring unconventional resources for job leads INALJ grew from a subscription base of 20 friends to over 3,600 librarians and information professionals. Naomi believes that well-sourced quantity is quality in this narrow job market and INALJ reflects this with over 150 pages of jobs published daily. She has written for the 2011 and 2012 LexisNexis Government Info Pro. Naomi is also a Reference and Acquisitions Librarian for a contractor at a federal library outside Washington, DC. She runs her husband’s moving labor website, KhanMoving.com, fixes and sells old houses and assists her husband cooking delicious Pakistani food as well. She has heard of spare time but hasn’t encountered it lately. She pronounces INALJ as eye-na-elle-jay.

Lisa Carlucci Thomas

Lisa Carlucci Thomas is an experienced manager, librarian, writer, and speaker; nationally recognized for her leadership, innovation, and research on evolving mobile and social technologies. Her presentation topics include ebooks, libraries, mobile culture, social media, technology trends, training, career development for information and communications professionals, and the intergenerational library workplace. Lisa is the Director of design think do, a library technology and creative services firm. She is a 2010 Library Journal Mover & Shaker, a 2009 ALA Emerging Leader, and a MLIS graduate of Syracuse University. Lisa was formerly Digital Services Librarian at Southern Connecticut State University, responsible for library systems and digital initiatives. Stephanie Walker

Prof. Stephanie Walker is the Chief Librarian & Executive Director of Academic IT for Brooklyn College, a senior college within the City University of New York system. Prior to coming to Brooklyn, she had been Director of Collections for the Harvard Medical Libraries; Dean & University Librarian at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Head of the Dental Library at the University of Toronto. She has also held numerous IT positions within and outside of libraries. Currently, she oversees both library and academic technology staff and services for Brooklyn College, and spends a good deal of time seeking innovative ways to cope with budget crunches. She is very tired of the phrase “doing more with less”, and is instead trying to find ways that her library can generate funds to “do more with more”.
